The third trial of five anti-war activists for the alleged disarmament of a US Navy war plane at Shannon Airport is due to get under way today.
The Pit Stop Ploughshares protesters - Deirdre Clancy, Nuin Dunlop, Karen Fallon, Damien Moran and Ciaron O'Reilly - are to appear before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
They are charged with causing criminal damage to the US Navy plane and to two glass door panels at Shannon Airport on February 3 2003.
In November last, their trial collapsed following a suggestion by the defence that the trial judge had attended the inauguration of George W Bush as US President.
On day 10 of the trial, Judge Donagh McDonagh said he had been left with no option but to withdraw the case from the jury.
This was the second time the case had been withdrawn from a jury before it reached a conclusion.
It was previously estimated that the cost of the damage to the aircraft in the alleged attack was up to €2.5 million.
