Chicago - Heterosexual transmission of the AIDS virus is on the upswing among young US adults, particularly among minorities, says a study published in the latest issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Among young adults aged between 20 and 25, HIV incidence attributed to homosexual contact and injection drug use was lower in 1993 than in 1988, but the incidence attributed to heterosexual contact was "stable or increasing".
