The Alliance Party has urged the setting up a sub-committee of Belfast City Council "to consider and make recommendations on the council's approach to the Irish language and issues of cultural diversity".
Mr Mervyn Jones, leader of the Alliance group, said: "For too long, the Irish language and cultural traditions have been used as political weapons."
