An Post's parcel delivery subsidiary, SDS, has suspended 40 employees in an escalating row over the closure of the company.
The company confirmed earlier today it had suspended eight workers.
It is understood thatthe final number could climb to 60 by this evening.
Following talks at the Labour Relations Commission today the Communications Workers' Union insisted that all suspended staff should be returned to the payroll immediately to allow talks on arrangements for closing SDS to be completed.

An Post is adamant that the decision to close SDS was taken after a "thorough and detailed review" of the SDS business.
