Edinburgh - The Anglican Communion appears to have avoided a major rift on the question of homosexual behaviour, Robert Nowell reports. The Anglican Consultative Council is meeting in Scotland, and a compromise appears to have been reached at a closed session in Edinburgh yesterday. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, has initiated a consultation between bishops representing all shades of opinion on this issue, and the group will hold its first meeting New York in November.
