Anthony Kelly - a brother of the late Limerick alderman and criminal Michael Kelly - escaped another attempt on his life yesterday when gunmen opened fire on his car in broad daylight.
Several shots were fired at 8.40am yesterday when the father of six was returning to his O'Malley Park home in Southill after dropping his children to school.
Up to five shots were fired at his car.
It is understood at least two men were involved in the shooting.
Mr Kelly's car was being examined by detectives at Roxboro Garda station, where the 46-year-old sought refuge immediately after the attack.
Last April Anthony Kelly escaped injury when he was shot at while driving a van in the Southill area.
This shooting took place just days after his brother's home was targeted by a gang wielding slash-hooks.
In March, Anthony Kelly suffered pellet wounds to the side of his face when he was shot outside his home.
Gardaí believe the attacks are connected to a dispute between two families in the Southill area, but Mr Kelly has always denied he or his family are involved in any feud.
His brother, Michael Kelly, died in June 2004, four weeks after he was found in a coma at his mother's home in Lilac Court in Southill after suffering a gunshot wound to his head.
Anthony Kelly arranged the exhumation of his brother's body to dispel media reports that suggested a gun had been buried in the coffin.
Gardaí have asked for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the O'Malley Park area to contact them at Roxboro Garda station at 061-214340.
