Alan McQuillan was appointed as boss of the North's Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) today.

Mr McQuillan, a former assistant chief constable in the Police Service of Northern Ireland, is currently deputy director and was appointed following a competitive recruitment process.

He has been with the agency since it was set up in 2003 and takes up his new post on April 1st.

He succeeds current ARA  director Jane Earl.

The British government has announced plans to merge the ARA with the Serious Organised Crime Agency and Mr McQuillan's appointment will be for the interim period. The merger is expected to be completed next year.
