A truck crowded with religious followers skidded off a road and overturned as it rounded a bend in central India today, killing at least 22 people, police said.
"So far 22 bodies have been recovered and the injured have been taken to hospital," police inspector Kanshi Ram Ahirwar told Reuters by phone.
Thirty-four people were hurt in the crash near Morena town, 465 km (290 miles) north of Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh state.
Ahirwar said the victims were travelling to Etawah city in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh state to propagate the teachings of a regional Hindu leader.
