London - One man died and two others were fighting for life in hospital today after taking a "bad" batch of drugs at a night-club. Four others were also admitted to hospital after taking the tablets - believed to be Ecstasy - at the Drome nigh-tclub in south-east London.

One man died at St Thomas's Hospital early today and another, who suffered a fit, was said to be in a critical condition. Another clubber, who fell from a walkway, was taken to London's King's College Hospital, where he was also said to be in a critical condition.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "It appears that a particularly `bad' batch of tablets may have been circulating that night that can cause serious illness and disorientation." Three people have been arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs and were being held in custody at Walworth police station.
