Baxter awaits medal appeal decision

British skier Alain Baxter will tomorrow discover whether he can keep his Olympic bronze medal.

British skier Alain Baxter will tomorrow discover whether he can keep his Olympic bronze medal.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will announce its judgement on the Scot's battle to clear his name.

The International Olympic Committee stripped Baxter of his medal in the slalom - Britain's first-ever for skiing - after he tested positive for the banned substance methamphetamine following the Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

Baxter, from Aviemore, insisted he only inhaled a US version of Vick's nasal spray, which contained methamphetamine, during the games in February.

The 28-year-old won his CAS case against the International Ski Federation (FIS) with respect to the length of his suspension from competition.

In August, the CAS announced that the ban imposed on Baxter would be lifted immediately.

The initial ruling would have prevented him from competing until December 15th this year, forcing him to sit out the early stages of the northern hemisphere season next month.

He is due to hold a press conference in his home town after tomorrow's decision has been made.
