London - The British government yesterday tried to calm what it called the frenzy over the memoirs of former Paymaster General Mr Geoffrey Robinson, describing the row as "froth" and "blather".

Prime Minister Blair's official spokesman said there was nothing new in the Robinson book and that its effects would not last.
