Gardaí say they have no evidence to suggest there is any link between the discovery of the body of a man in a river in Midleton, Co Cork, yesterday and the disappearance of Robert Holohan.
The body of a man believed to be in his 40s or 50s was recovered from the Owenacurra River in Midleton shortly after 5 p.m. yesterday.
The name of the man has not been released officially, but he is known to local people who said he was a psychiatric patient from the area.
Health authorities were yesterday unable to confirm whether the man had been missing or if he was attending a local community hospital, which also provides psychiatric services.
The facility is a short distance from the point in the river where the body was recovered.
The man's body was spotted in the Owenacurra River by two women who were walking in the area yesterday afternoon.
They contacted gardaí who cordoned off the area alongside the riverbank.
Members of the Civil Defence were called in to help recover the body.
The operation was watched by dozens of onlookers who gathered at the Owenacurra Bridge, close to Midleton's main street.
Gardaí yesterday said they did not suspect foul play in the death and did not release the name of the man.
He was named locally and several members of the community played down any link between the discovery of his body and and the disappearance of Robert Holohan.
