Boxing:Northern Ireland's Damaen Kelly has announced his retirement from boxing following his European bantamweight title defeat on Saturday night.

He was stopped in the third round in Sardinia to suffer his second successive loss to champion Simone Maludrottu, who had controversially beaten him in Belfast last April.

Kelly leaves the sport as one of the most successful British fighters, having won World and European amateur bronze medals, as well as British, Commonwealth and European flyweight titles in the professional ranks, along with IBO titles at flyweight and bantamweight.

The 33-year-old, who reached the quarter-finals in the Atlanta Olympics of 1996, said: "The time has come for me to walk away. The defeat on Saturday night just confirmed that to me.
