A 16-year-old boy who is charged with the random rape of a woman has been given conditional bail until October by Dublin Children's Court.
The south Dublin teenager, who was supported in court yesterday by his father, is facing two charges.
One is for allegedly raping the woman at Church Lane South, Dublin, on July 7th contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Amendment Act, 1990.
The second is for the alleged attempted rape of the woman on the same date.
The boy was granted bail with a number of conditions yesterday until October pending the service of the book of evidence in the case.
He was ordered to sign on daily at his local Garda station; obey a curfew to be at his home between the hours of 9pm and 6am daily; surrender his passport; and have no contact, directly or indirectly, with the alleged victim.
An application was made by defence solicitor Dara Robinson yesterday to waive the curfew on two occasions when the boy is to attend family events.
Arresting garda Brendan Whitty, of Kevin Street Garda station, objected to the application due to the "random nature" of the alleged attack.
"Alcohol may be consumed; an attack of the same nature may occur."
Judge Bryan Smyth agreed to relax the curfew conditions on the two specified occasions after hearing that the boy's father gave assurances to bring his son directly to the events.
He would also supervise him at all times and take him straight home afterwards.
The boy was arrested on Thursday last week.
He was remanded in custody with consent to bail with an independent surety of €2,000.
He was released from custody in the following days after the bail was taken up.
