A bride whose wedding night was "turned into a disaster" has been awarded £5,500 damages in the Circuit Civil Court against a top Dublin hotel. Judge Liam Devally heard that Caroline McDermott (26), accompanied by her husband Keith, walked two miles home to Crumlin in her wedding dress in the rain in the middle of the night. The couple sued Moran's Hotel Ireland Ltd, Red Cow Inn, Naas Road, Dublin, for damages for negligence and breach of contract.
Mr Bernard McCabe, counsel for the couple, told the court they were married on September 4th, 1998, and had booked their reception in the Red Cow Inn.
They also had reserved a bridal suite in the next-door Moran's Hotel for their wedding night. The couple told Judge Devally that after the wedding night celebrations they went to their hotel room but their luggage had been delivered to another newly-married couple next door. Judge Devally said when the hotel management discovered the error they declined to disturb the other couple. He said the couple became very upset and asked hotel staff to order a taxi. There were no taxis available so they set off walking home. Judge Devally said he had "no doubt but that this was a breach of contract as well as negligence".
