A building company was given permission by the High Court yesterday to serve notice on a number of individuals of its intention to seek orders preventing picketing at three major developments.

Brian McCarthy Building and Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd, of Ennis, Co Clare, is seeking the orders in relation to developments it is engaged on at the International Folk Music Centre, Ennis; Limerick Racecourse and the University of Limerick.

The court heard picketing had started at the Ennis development early last week and had spread to the two Limerick sites.

In court yesterday, Mr Andrew Walker, for the company, told the President of the High Court, Mr Justice Morris, the numbers involved in the dispute were escalating and there was an urgency about the application.
