The Cabinet has begun its weekly meeting in Cork this morning. The meeting is being held in the city to mark its status as the European City of Culture.

After the meeting, the Cabinet will visit the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery to designate it as a national cultural institution.

The Taoiseach Mr Ahern will then travel to University College Cork to formally present papers left by Cork composer Sean O’Riada to the university.

The O'Riada collection contains instruments, original scores, correspondence, possessions and books and will be housed in the university’s Boole Library.

It has been reported this morning that the Minister for Justice will today sanction an increase in the numbers of resettled refugees accepted into Ireland.
