Motorcycles, particularly those used by couriers, should be subject to periodic safety checks, a jury at Dublin City Coroner's Court heard yesterday, writes Eamonn Holmes.
The jury added the rider to a verdict of accidental death at an inquest into the death of Gary Brady (27), of Glin Road, Coolock, who was killed when his motorcycle collided with the kerb and a traffic light post at Con Colbert Road on May 6th last. He was pronounced dead at St James's Hospital minutes after the accident.
Garda Matthew Edgeworth, a PSV inspector, said he found the motorcycle, a Yamaha 125, dangerously defective. The steering was excessively worn, the front brake was not working and the chain sprocket was worn. Overall, it had been poorly maintained.
