London - A senior British government adviser on rural issues yesterday called for a vaccination scheme against foot-and-mouth disease to fight any future outbreaks.

Mr Ewen Cameron, the chairman of the Countryside Agency, said the crisis cost the agricultural industry about £1.5 billion sterling, but the effect on tourism would be nearer £4 billion.
