Athens - More than 2,000 items once owned by Maria Callas including jewellery, paintings, furs and haute couture dresses, photo albums, letters, and sheet music will go under the hammer at an auction this weekend in Paris.

But the sale, entitled "Maria Callas, Souvenirs of a Legend", has caused an outcry in Greece, with many claiming the auction cheapens her memory.
