Paris - French police defused a 60 kg car bomb in a vehicle parked in the centre of Marseilles yesterday which an anonymous caller said was meant as a warning to Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, a police spokesman said.

A journalist in Paris received a warning call two hours before the bomb was timed to go off at 6 p.m. and was told it was meant as a warning for Mr Jospin, the spokesman said. The car, which was stolen, was parked near a police station and had four jerrycans full of explosives and a timer.
