A car bomb that exploded outside a hotel in central Helsinki early today killed one person, the occupant of the car, and seriously hurt another man in a neighbouring car.
The motive for the killing and the identity of the victims were not immediately known, nor if the two were in any way related to each other, Helsinki police spokesman Mr Paivi Kaasinen said.
The prostitution and drug trade in Finland are said to be under the control of rival Estonian and Russian mobs, but Mr Kaasinen declined to say whether the police believed the bomb to be part of a turf war between the two.
