The mother of a man with severe dyskinteic cerebral palsy who is hoping to compel the South Western Area Health Board and the Minister for Health, Mr Martin, to provide her son with 24-hour care said yesterday she "will accept nothing less".

Ms Ann Mulligan, who lives in Lucan, Co Dublin, with her son, Robert (22), is suing the health board and the Minister for "appropriate therapeutic care" on his behalf.

At the High Court yesterday counsel for the health board and the Minister was granted an adjournment of the case until September 8th in the hope of finding a resolution.

Mr Mulligan suffers from severe cerebral palsy, scoliosis and Gilbert's syndrome, a liver disorder. His airways need to be frequently suctioned, he needs a daily enema and he is unable to speak.

Counsel for the health board and the Minister told Mr Justice Peter Kelly his clients hoped a "resolution could be reached without going into the history of the case" in open court.

A case conference between the parties concerned is scheduled for August 23rd at which the health board hopes agreement may be reached, said counsel.
