The bookshop chain Hughes and Hughes is planning to import 20,000 copies of The Royals by the US author Kitty Kelley, writes Michael Foley.
A spokesman for the company said it was taking legal advice in case a libel is included in the book against a person living in Ireland. Hughes and Hughes has seven shops in Dublin and Galway. It is planned that the book will be on sale as soon as possible.
The book has been published in the US amid considerable controversy, much of it critical of Ms Kelley. As it makes a number of damaging allegations concerning the British royal family, it has not been published in Britain for fear of libel.
