Kiev - Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear power plant said yesterday it had restarted its last functioning reactor after a minor malfunction caused a shutdown last week. The station's duty engineer said by telephone from Chernobyl, site of the world's worst civil nuclear disaster in 1986, that Reactor 3 had reached "minimum capacity" and was due to be plugged back into the national grid early yesterday.

The 1,000-megawatt reactor was stopped last Friday after a valve was found to be leaking radioactive water.
