Take a group of school kids from Waterford, Meath and Dublin, set up regular meetings in Garter Lane Arts Centre and the Irish Museum of Modern Art and what do you get? The Somebodies exhibition at The Irish Museum of Modern Art, selected and curated by these students and a joint initiative between the Museum and Garter Lane. Three years in the planning, this group was so inventive, enthusiastic and hardworking that not even the pressures of Leaving Cert exams could distract them from the task at hand. The result is a exhibition of works chosen from IMMA's Collection, says Barry Gavin of Waterford "because the curators liked them, not for any feat of artistic achievement, which though skilful, can be horribly boring." Artists selected by this enterprising group include Janine Antoini, Robert Ballagh, Dorothy Cross, John Kindness, Kathy Prendergast, and Pascal Verbena and the exhibition runs until September 26th.
