Ireland's Darren Clarke has been named the Asprey Golfer of the Month following his second World Golf Championship victory in Firestone Country Club in Ohio.
Clarke became only the second player - after Tiger Woods, who has seven - to win more than one of the World Golf Championships, when he won the NEC Invitational taking his world-wide earnings for the year to $2,431,653.
Clarke narrowly pipped Lee Westwood for the accolade after the young Englishman won the BMW International Open in Munich, to complete a long overdue return to form.
Westwood ended three years without a title by surging to a tremendous three-shot victory, covering the final nine holes in 30 shots for a closing 66.
The award comes after a month in which European based players have impressed hugely in the United States.
Australian Adam Scott, another regular of the European Tour, just last weekend won the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston after shooting a third round course record of 62. England's Justin Rose was also in the reckoning after a final round of 67 saw him finish third.
