The Irish Chamber Orchestra's opening tour of the new season offers the first opportunity to hear the young Russian pianist Alexei Nabioulin since he won the AXA Dublin International Piano Competition earlier this year. Anyone who heard him only in the finals might think his choice of Mozart's Piano Concerto in C, K415, a far cry from the Prokofiev which so excited the audience last May. But it shouldn't be forgotten that one of Nabioulin's most controversial contributions during the competition was an extremely introverted reading of Schubert's late Sonata in B flat, D960. The orchestra is in the hands of its artistic director, Fionnuala Hunt. The programme also includes Mozart's Divertimento in F, K138, Sibelius's Romance in C, Op. 42, and Bartok's Divertimento for strings.
