Who gets the punters out queuing for concert tickets on a drizzly February evening?

Ed Sheeran, that’s who.

The singer confirmed on Wednesday he will play a second date at Croke Park this summer.

Sheeran will play at Croke park on Friday, July 24th and Saturday, July 25th “due to phenomenal demand” Aiken Promotions said.

Pre-sale tickets that went out to fans on Wednesday have since sold out, but more will be available for general sale at 9am on Thursday.

Friends Chantelle Kavanagh and Nicole Byrne from Dublin began queuing outside Ticketmaster on Jervis Street at 5pm on Wednesday evening.

“I’m buying tickets for me and my boyfriend and two other friends who won’t make the queue tomorrow,” said Chantelle.

“I want to get a ticket for definite and I love Ed Sheeran so you have to get out early, don’t you?”

“We’re the first here and we’re going to be here until the bitter end. If I don’t get tickets tomorrow, I’ll run amok! I’ll be devastated.”

Nicole Byrne describes herself as Sheeran’s biggest fan: “In Dublin anyway!”

“He’s just great. I’ve never seen him before but when I heard he was going to play Croker, I just had to get a ticket,” said Nicole.

“He seems so sound and his songs and lyrics are just brilliant. I’ve been the biggest fan since day one. We’re in for a rainy, sleepless night but it’s going to be worth it when we get the tickets,”she said

While the wind whipped through Jervis street, the girls pulled their Dora the Explorer duvet tighter around them.

“We have our umbrellas and we’ve got food and supplies under our chairs. People going by us here think we’re homeless!” said Nicole.

The girls said they will be “skipping home” if they get their hands on tickets in the morning .

And if they don’t?

“There’ll be killings!” laughed Chantelle.

“We’re going to tweet him a picture of us queuing. We know he’s at the Brits tonight but he might see it and sort us out with tickets,” said Nicole.

Two other fans who didn’t wish to be named were speculating on who would support Sheeran when he plays Croke Park.

“It’s gonna be Beyoncé or Sam Smith, he’ll have someone decent anyway. So long as it’s not Garth Brooks,” one of the fans said.

Aiken Promotions have confirmed that Ed Sheeran will play a second date at Croke Park, Saturday July 25th.

The tickets go on sale on Thursday, February 26th and are priced from €69 – €80.

Ticketmaster has warned children under 14 will not be permitted on the pitch and should not buy standing tickets.

All under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when entering the stadium.

DoneDeal said a cap of €110 has been placed on all Ed Sheeran tickets advertised in an effort to prevent ticket touts and scams.
