Cork 1-12 Kerry 0-12:Cork were 1-12 to 0-12 winners over rivals Kerry in last night's National League fixture at Pairc Ui Rinn where Paul Galvin was dismissed following a straight red card.
The 2009 player of the year was sent-off as was Cork’s Eoin Cadogan after an off the ball incident in the early stages of the game. Cork had earlier lost Noel Galvin for a second yellow card offence.
Kerry manager Jack O’Connor believes Paul Galvin’s reputation sometimes works against him.
“I’d need to watch the tape to find out what happened,” said the Kerry manager. “I’m not sure, but by all accounts he didn’t do too much. Give a fellow a bad name and it follows him.
The game produced seven yellow cards in all.
In terms of the action Paul Kerrigan scored the only goal of the game for Cork in the fourth minute after a well-worked moved involving Paudie Kissane, Nicholas Murphy, Donncha O’Connor and Paul O’Flynn.
The scoring dried up but Cork went into the break 1-4 to 0-6 ahead.
Daniel Goulding found his range for Cork but Barry John Keane levelled with several well taken points for Kerry in the second period. Donnacha Walsh then edged Kerry in front after a short kick-out backfired on Cork.
By the hour mark Cork opened up a 1-10 to 0-10 lead before Kerry substitute David O’Callaghan made an immediate impact with a couple of well-worked points.
Goulding fired over again while Kerrigan converted a fine point in the closing stages.
After a second Kerry will struggle to defend their Division One status.
At Pearse Stadium today Galway got the better of Monaghan 1-20 to 1-14 in their Division One encounter as Joe Kernan’s side recorded their first league win.
Kernan made no less than nine changes and handed Michael Meehan his first start.
Galway led 0-12 to 0-07 before Monaghan closed the gap in the second period through Paul Finlay, who was later sent-off.
Brendan McKenna scored Monaghan’s goal with Nicky Joyce finding the net for Galway.
