A man was in a serious condition in hospital in Dublin last night following a shooting incident in a pub in Dundalk, Co Louth, on Saturday night.

Gardaí have arrested a man and a woman in connection with the shooting, which happened in a pub on Bridge Street in the town at 9.45pm.

It is understood that a man entered the pub and opened fire on the victim, who was a customer on the premises, before fleeing the scene on foot.

The injured man was taken from the scene to Louth County Hospital in Dundalk, where he received emergency treatment.

He was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda later on Saturday night. However, following a review of his condition, he was taken yesterday morning to St James's Hospital in Dublin. The extent and nature of the man's injuries are not known. However his condition was described as serious but stable last night.

Gardaí arrested a man in his 30s early yesterday morning in connection with the shooting. Later yesterday afternoon, a 40-year-old woman was also arrested for questioning.

They are both being detained in Dundalk Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. Gardaí in Dundalk have appealed for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
