The Supreme Court has cleared the way for the extradition to the UK of a Cork man who is wanted there for the alleged kidnap and assault of his former partner.
The three-judge court yesterday dismissed an appeal by Kieran Thomas Draisey (45), Lower Range, Rostellan, Midleton, Co Cork, against a High Court order that he be surrendered to the UK authorities.
Mr Draisey is wanted in the UK for the alleged kidnap and false imprisonment of Tracy Whitworth-Wilde on dates between 1995 and 1998 in the town of Widnes, greater Manchester. He is also charged with threatening to kill and assaulting Ms Whitworth-Wilde, causing her actual bodily harm.
In his appeal, Mr Draisey argued he had been prejudiced by the delay in the issuing of the extradition warrant. However, that and all of his other grounds of appeal were rejected by the Supreme Court, presided over by Mr Justice Hugh Geoghegan.
The court heard Mr Draisey had a relationship with Ms Whitworth-Wilde, from 1988 to 1995, and they had two children.
On September 14th, 1995, when he was said to be drunk, he had allegedly punched and kicked Ms Whitworth-Wilde. It was claimed Mr Draisey put her into a car and drove around for several hours against her will. After they returned to their residence, Mr Draisey went to bed, taking the keys of the house and the phone with him, it was alleged.
In another alleged incident on December 15th, 1995, it was claimed Mr Draisey punched her in the face after drinking all day.
