Body of man with ‘unexplained injuries’ found at Dublin house

Gardaí suspect man in Balbriggan died violently and are applying resources of murder inquiry

The body of a man has been discovered in a house in north Co Dublin, with the property now sealed off by gardaí as a potential crime scene.

The resources of a murder investigation have been applied to the case as it is suspected the man died violently at the domestic residence in Balbriggan. Garda sources said the man had sustained visible injuries.

The dead man was in his 60s and his remains were discovered just after 2pm on Wednesday in the property where he is believed to have lived alone.

His home on Dún Saithne Green was sealed off immediately the man's body was found and the remains were left in situ pending the arrival of a pathologist.

A preliminary examination for the body was due to be carried out by the pathologist at the scene before ts removal for a full postmortem examination.

While gardaí suspect the man died violently, his death was officially classified as “unexplained” as a postmortem was required to determine the exact cause of death and direction of the Garda investigation.

Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin, confirmed the scene remained sealed off and would be examined by the Garda Technical Bureau, while the State Pathologists' Office had also been informed.
