Cocaine, pistol and €400,000 cash seized by Garda in Ballymun house

Two being held for questioning and can be held without charge for up to 72 hours

Gardaí have seized a gun and cocaine along with around €400,000 in cash in an operation targeting a north Dublin crime gang.

The find was made on Thursday night in Ballymun and targeted drug dealers based in the suburb.

A man in his 50s was arrested during the search operation on Thursday night and another suspect was detained by gardaí on Friday.

They were both being questioned Friday evening under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be detained for questioning without charge for a maximum of 72 hours.

Gardaí from the Ballymun Drugs Unit carried out a raid on a house in Ballymun on Thursday night supported by uniformed local gardaí and members of the force’s specialist armed units.

A pistol and small quantity of cocaine was found along with €400,000 in cash. The money had been counted and divided into blocks of varying values in notes of €100, €50, €20 and €10.

The cash has been seized and unless it can be proven to be legitimate income it will remain seized and will eventually be realised by the State.
