Retired Supreme Court judge Kevin Lynch has died aged 85 in Adare, Co Limerick. Mr Justice Lynch was born in Dublin in 1928 and educated at St Mary’s College, Rathmines, and UCD. He was called to the Bar in 1949. In 1970 he became a senior counsel and in 1984 was made a judge of the High Court. He became a judge of the Supreme Court in 1996 before his retirement in December 1999.
He headed the tribunal of inquiry into the “Kerry babies” case, which was an examination of Garda beha- viour during an investigation into the death of a baby after its body was found on a beach in Co Kerry in April 1984.
He also heard the 277-day Bula Mines case in 1996.
His removal will take place on Sunday evening, arriving at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Donnybrook, at 6.30pm. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 11.30am.
