A Polish woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of Hungarian man Csaba Orsas (31) , in Arklow, Co Wicklow last year.

Marta Herda (27), with an address at Pairc Na Saille, Arklow, was remanded in custody to appear at Arklow Court on Wednesday next when she appeared before judge David Kennedy at a special sitting of Bray District Court this morning.

Mr Orsas’s body was found on Clogga beach about two miles south of Arklow just hours after Ms Herda was rescued from a car which had been driven off the pier in Arklow town in March 2013.

Garda Anthony Crehan told the court Ms Herta had replied “I didn’t want this happen”, when he charged her with Mr Orsas’s murder at 7.25am at Arklow Garda station.

Ms Herda, who was wearing a beige cardigan with a black and rose-coloured scarf, black trousers and soft shoes, sobbed throughout the hearing. She spoke through an interpreter only to indicate she understood the proceedings.

Defending solicitor Tom Honan of Thomas E Honan and Co said he would be applying to the High Court early next week for bail for Ms Herda.

Judge Kennedy granted legal aid and remanded Ms Herda to Arklow District Court to allow for the preparation of the book of evidence in the case.

Mr Orsas and Ms Herda had worked together at the Brooklodge Hotel near Aughrim. Mr Orsas lived at Brookview Court, Arklow.

Ms Herda was questioned at the time of Mr Orsas’ death but was later released without charge.
