Man in 40s hospitalised after being attacked by at least two men in laneway in Youghal

Gardaí are examining CCTV footage after a man suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after he was attacked in a laneway in Youghal, Co Cork on Tuesday.

The man, who is in his early 40s, suffered stab wounds to the back and stomach when he was attacked by at least two men at Meat Shambles Lane off North Main St in the town at about 3.30pm.

The man managed to raise the alarm and was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital (CUH) where he was treated for his injuries.

It is understood he is now in a stable condition.

Gardaí are hoping to be given permission on Wednesday by doctors at CUH to speak to the victim in the hope of getting a description of his assailants.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the attack or seen any suspicious activity in the area to contact them on 024-92200.
