Roads around Castleblayney remain closed following a failed attempt to steal an ATM from a bank in the town this morning.
According to gardaí, responding officers pursued two vehicles to the Northern Irish border after a stolen teleporter was used to pry an ATM from the wall of Ulster Bank on the Dublin Road, causing extensive damage to the building.
The alarm was raised at 3am, following which the suspects escaped in a grey Audi A6 and a white Transit van.
Although the ATM was removed from the wall, the attempted robbers were disrupted and nothing was stolen.
Roads including York Street, Church Street, Thomas Street and part of the Dublin Road were temporarily closed as gardaí inspect the scene. Any witnesses are asked to contact Castleblayney Garda Station on 042 9740668.
