The local community in Dún Laoghaire is in a state of shock following the fatal stabbing of a woman last night, according to neighbours.
Jane Braidwood (65) was stabbed in her home at Clarinda Park East in Dún Laoghaire.
Ms Braidwood was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The widowed mother-of-three grown-up children worked as a mental health professional.
A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and was being questioned last night at Dún Laoghaire Garda station. Garda sources said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with Ms Braidwood’s death.
‘Shouting’
Neighbour David Songhurst said he had heard a commotion at the house last night.
“I heard something going on outside. The man was shouting . . . and he had marks on his face.
“He seemed distressed and was asking someone to call the gardaí,” said Mr Songhurst. “The whole thing is so shocking.”
Another neighbour who did not wish to be named said they were a “private family” and the local community was shocked at the news.
“It’s very sad for the family, the whole street is in a state of shock,” said another neighbour.
