An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a number of shots were fired at gardaí from a house in Kinsale, Co Cork last night.
Gardaí were responding to reports of an incident at the house near Minane Bridge at about 11pm when shots were fired from inside the building.
Armed gardaí from the Regional Support Unit and Garda crisis negotiators were called to the scene, which was cordoned off.
A neighbouring house was evacuated as a precaution.
A Garda spokesman said two occupants of the house were taken to safety. He said an 18-year-old man was found in an outhouse by armed officers at about 2.20am.
He was arrested and a shotgun was recovered.
There were no injuries reported and no shots were discharged by gardaí during the incident.
A Garda source said it is being treated as a domestic incident and there were no intruders involved.
The man is being held under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Bandon Garda station. The scene is preserved for a technical examination and the investigation is ongoing.
