A 30-year-old man has been charged in connection with a shooting incident in which a 35-year-old man was injured in a North Cork pub last weekend.
Charles O’Callaghan was charged with two offences arising out of the shooting at the White Country Inn in Banteer at about 8pm last Sunday night.
O’Callaghan from Killavoy, Banteer, was brought before a special sitting of Mallow District Court last night where he was charged by gardaí with the two offences.
O’Callaghan was charged with assault causing harm to Mark Kelly at the White Country Inn on August 3rd contrary to Section 3 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
O’Callaghan was also charged with producing a weapon capable of causing serious injury in the course of a dispute contrary to Section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.
Sgt James O’Shea told Judge Tim Lucey that gardaí had no objections to O’Callaghan being released on bail once he agreed to abide by a number of conditions.
He said that the gardaí were continuing to investigate the incident with a view to preparing a full file on the matter for the DPP.
O’Callaghan was granted free legal aid and his solicitor, Charlie O’Connor, said that his client was willing to abide by the bail conditions being sought by gardaí.
Judge Lucey remanded O’Callaghan on own bail of €250 to appear at Mallow District Court again on September 9th and ordered him to abide by six bail conditions.
These included that he sign on every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at Mallow Garda Station and that he reside at his home address and that he observe a 9pm to 7am curfew.
He also ordered O’Callaghan to stay away from the injured party, not to enter the White Country Inn and notify gardaí if he is admitted to any medical institution.
