Man arrested after serious assault in Co Tipperary

Gardaí in Co Tipperary last night arrested a man in connection with a serious assault that left a man in his 60s fighting for his life.

Officers arrested the 20-year-old man in Cahir, Co Tipperary, at around 9pm following the incident at a house in Ballyporeen earlier in the day.

The victim of the assault was discovered in the house outside the village yesterday evening with serious head injuries. He was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

Gardai cordoned off the scene of the assault and a garda technical team last night began a forensic examination of the scene to help establish what happened to the injured party.

The man was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act which allows officers detain suspects for up to 24 hours.
