A man was arrested and €50,000 in cash recovered after a cash-in-transit robbery in Clondalkin this morning.
Two men had approached a cash-in-transit worker as he made a delivery to a premises in Bawnogue Shopping Centre at about 11.20am.
The worker was threatened with what is described as a handgun before leaving in a waiting SUV with a sum of money.
A passing Garda patrol observed the vehicle leaving the car park and followed it a short distance to Kilmahuddrick, where they succeeded in arresting one male. They also recovered €50,000 and a firearm, which is to be sent for a technical examination.
The man detained, in his 30s, is being held at Clondalkin Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939. The investigation is ongoing.
