Man arrested in connection with fatal Kilkenny crash is released

The 53-year-old was arrested on Thursday and kept in custody at Thomastown station

A man arrested in connection with a suspected hit-and-run in Co Kilkenny was released on Friday morning.

The victim, in his 20s, died after the car he was driving was in a collision with another vehicle on the westbound carriageway of the N24 Piltown bypass near Fiddown on Thursday about 1am.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Waterford for a postmortem examination.

Gardaí said the other driver failed to stop at the crash site.

A 53-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident later on Thursday and had been kept in custody at Thomastown Garda station overnight.

A Garda spokesman said the man was released without charge on Friday and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
