Gardaí are to prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions after they released without charge a man arrested for questioning about a hit and run incident in Cobh.
A 52-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop while out walking on Ballynoe Hill in Cobh at about 8.30am yesterday.
She was discovered by a paramedic and was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where her condition was described as serious.
It’s understood that the woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Gardaí in Cobh began an investigation and the road was closed for a number of hours to allow a forensic crash investigator examine the scene.
Yesterday afternoon gardaí identified a suspect vehicle which they believed may have been involved in the hit-and-run and later identified a possible driver of the vehicle.
They arrested a man in his 30s at an address in Cobh at about 5.30pm and brought him to Cobh Garda station for questioning.
They impounded a vehicle which is being technically examined.
The man questionedwas released just before midnight without charge.
Yesterday’s incident is the second hit and run in Cork in the space of four days and follows a separate and unrelated fatal hit and run in Cork city centre on Thursday
French national, Gabriel Jean Lege was fatally injured when he was struck on George's Quay near by a white Ford Transit van which failed to stop.
Gardai at Anglesea Street Garda station have appealed for witnesses.
