A man is being treated in hospital after being shot in the upper body at a residential address in Tallaght, Dublin, on Friday afternoon.

It is understood he suffered serious injuries in the shooting which occurred at Fortunestown Lane just after midday. It is believed to have been a murder attempt.

Video footage shows two suspected shooters attempting to set their getaway car alight using petrol near the scene. One of the men was briefly engulfed by the flames before both fled in a secondary getaway car.

Gardaí recovered a firearm from the scene and have issued a public appeal for help in tracing the movements of several vehicles.

“Gardaí are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at a domestic residence on Cookstown Road in Tallaght, Dublin 24, this afternoon,” they said.

“A male, aged in his 50s, received gunshot wounds and was removed to Tallaght University Hospital. His condition is described as serious.”

The scene was preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau and an incident room has been established at Tallaght Garda station, which is being overseen by a senior investigating officer. No arrests have yet been made.

Information on three vehicles has been sought, each believed to be involved in the shooting.

  • A small dark van was discovered on fire in Kilcarrig Close, Tallaght, at approximately 12.15pm.
  • A small black car was discovered partially burned in Rathmill Glen, Rathcoole, a short time later.
  • A small silver hatchback car which investigators believe may have been parked in Rathmill Glen, Rathcoole, over the past 24 hours.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident has been urged to come forward, particularly anyone on Cookstown Road, Tallaght, between 11.45am and 12.15pm on Friday.
