Man in critical condition after Co Longford ‘hit-and-run’

Van failed to stop after hitting victim, who is in his 20s, on Main Street in Edgeworthstown

Gardaí are appealing for information about an apparent hit-and-run incident in Edgeworthstown, Co Longford in the early hours of Sunday.

A man in his 20s was badly injured when he was hit by a silver Ford Transit while walking on Main Street in the town at 2.30am. The van failed to remain at the scene, gardaí said.

The man suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, which specialises in the treatment of head injuries.

He remains in a critical condition in the hospital, a garda spokesman said.
