Man in serious condition after driving van into house

A man is in serious condition in hospital after the van he was driving crashed into two houses opposite Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Gardaí confirmed the man, aged in his 30s, was driving a white van when it hit a parked car and then two homes on Beaumont Road, opposite the hospital's gates, at about 3am on Wednesday.

The man was brought into the adjacent hospital and remains in serious condition.

The van, which was extensively damaged in the crash, was carrying carpet and carpet-fitting equipment.

Red brick walls at the front of the house were smashed through.

Gardaí are investigating the incident and have asked for anyone with information to contact them.
