A man in his 20s, who was arrested yesterday in connection with a car bomb explosion last March, has been released.
The man was arrested yesterday morning following an investigation into an explosion on March 30th 2014 on Long Lane, Dublin 8.
He was taken to Kevin Street Garda station where he was detained under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended. The man was released last night without charge.
The Army bomb disposal squad and the gardaí were called to Long Lane shortly before 11pm on March 30th after residents in the area reported an explosion which left a car “totally burnt out” according to a Garda source.
No one was injured in the incident but a number of houses close to the car were damaged.
The car belonged to a member of the public who was not known to gardaí. Gardaí had previously appealed to a taxi driver who had picked up a fare from an injured and bleeding man outside a take-away or pub at the New Street/Clanbrassil Street junction, before heading towards St Patrick’s Cathedral.
Investigators are to prepare a file on the incident for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
