A man is to appear in court on Thursday charged in connection with the stabbing of a woman in Co Cork.

The man, who is in his 50s, was arrested after an incident at a house at Cooline, Ballyvolan, Cobh on Tuesday.

He was charged at Cobh Garda station in connection with the attack on the woman, who is in her 40s, on Wednesday.

The woman was brought by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. She is understood to be in a serious but stable condition.

Her teenage daughter, who was also injured in the incident, was treated in hospital for less serious injuries.

The man is to appear before Clonakilty District Court on Thursday morning.
